Grand Opening Ceremonies for Rennie Drive Park

05/10/00

Recently residents of Nottingham Country celebrated the grand opening of their new park facility located on Rennie Drive just south of Kingsland Boulevard.  The event was kicked off by two bike parades which were coordinated by Cathie Borresen and Linda McDonald.  Neighborhood children decorated their bikes, received a mini safety lesson, and toured neighborhood streets led by Deputy Hyde, a recently trained bike patrol officer.  Children in the bike parade were competing for prizes donated by Bahama MaMa Shaved Ice.  A delicious breakfast was served at the park with donations from the French Bakery and Creamery and Albertsons.  Nottingham Country Community Improvement Association President, Kevin Rolens, presided over the ribbon cutting ceremony. The ceremony included: Phyliss Scheinder representing the Nottingham Women's Club which has donated picnic tables; Larry Beustring representing Mason Creek M.U.D. who spear headed the need for a community park; Trey Hamblet former NCCIA board member who worked tirelessly on the development of the park; and Sheri Andresen, another former board member and licensed landscape architect whose expertise was utilized in the pre-planning and design of the park.  After the opening ceremonies, residents enjoyed a day at their new park.  Pam Roberson organized wonderful activities for neighborhood children including moonwalks, face painting, a train ride through the park, and carnival type games.  Children also enjoyed being a "fireman" with the help from Station 2 volunteer fire fighters and interacting with a Mounted Patrolman from Constable Precinct 5.  NCCIA Board members and volunteers served hot dogs, sodas and snow cones to top off the fun!  Thanks go out to all community service personnel who were on hand, and all volunteers and residents in attendance who made this event a huge success.
